Biography:   

Anastasius Gavras is working as a program manager at Eurescom - the European Institute for Research and Strategic Studies in Telecommunications - an international project management company in the area of collaborative R&D in ICT. He has almost 20 years of experience in academic and industry research in the area of telecommunications working previously among others for Deutsche Telekom and Sprint. Currently he is leading the Pan-European Laboratory Infrastructure Implementation project.

Vasil Hnatyshin is Associate Professor of Computer Science at Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ. His teaching and research interests include the simulation and modeling of complex networks using OPNET, QualNet, and NS2. Prof. Hnatyshin received his PhD in 2003 from the University of Delaware.

J. Mark Pullen is Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Center of Excellence for Command, Control, Communications, Computing and Networking at George Mason University. He's a Fellow of the IEEE, Fellow of the ACM, Licensed Professional Engineer, and winner of the IEEE Harry Diamond Memorial Award for developing a global network testbed for military simulation and training.

Stephen Wolff is a Technical Manager in the Office of the CTO, Cisco Systems, where he is responsible for R&D interactions with research and education networks worldwide.

Panel 2: Large-scale Internet Testbeds

Panelists: Chip Elliot, Max Lemke, and Bill St. Arnaud

Biography:   

Chip Elliot is Project Director for GENI, the National Science Foundation's virtual laboratory for exploring future internets at scale. He is Chief Engineer at BBN Technologies and an AAAS and IEEE Fellow with over 85 patents issued and pending. Mr. Elliott has served on many national panels and has held visiting faculty positions at Dartmouth College, Tunghai University in Taiwan, and the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.

Max Lemke is the Deputy Head of Unit for “New Infrastructure Paradigms and Experimental Facilities” in the Directorate General Information Society and Media of the European Commission. In particular, he is responsible for building the European FIRE Future Internet Research and Experimentation Facility. Before joining the Commission, he has worked in research and industry in Germany, the US, the UK, and Belgium.

Bill St. Arnaud is the Chief Research Officer for CANARIE Inc., Canada's Advanced Internet Development Organization. He has been responsible for the coordination and implementation of Canada's next generation optical Internet initiative, CA*net 4. He was the principal architect of the User Controlled LightPath (UCLP) concept that allows users to create their own Internet network topologies and architectures.
